During 1979 and 1980 I was responsible for the design of telecommunication systems for the new industrial port of Yanbu in Saudi Arabia including a VHF Port Radio Station, a VHF/MF/HF Coastal Radio Station, UHF Port Management Communication Systems and a Non-directional LF Radio Beacon. This photo shows me while visiting Yanbu in June 1980 for a design review meeting.

Fortunately we had some idle time between surveys giving us the opportunity to visit Antigua Guatemala, a city in the central highlands of Guatemala famous for its well-preserved Spanish Mudéjar-influenced Baroque architecture as well as a number of spectacular ruins of colonial churches.

While traditional native dress has disappeared in many parts of the world, Guatemala remains a place where a high percentage of the indigenous people still proudly wear their traditional dress called traje.

In November 1989 I conducted a site survey in Ghana as part of the design of the telecommunication infrastructure for a gold mine, still under construction, in Bogoso, 12 kilometers north of Tarkwa and 200 kilometers west of the Ghanaian capital Accra (see map).

Part of project was the planning of a microwave radio link between the Bogosu mine site and a radio tower at the nearest access point of the Ghanain PT&T in Tarkwa.

Here we arrive in Tarkwa for a meeting with technicians of the Ghanain PT&T and a site survey.
